THE HONG KONG
INTERNATIONAL KITE FESTIVAL

What do you have when you get 71 International Kite Fliers from 17 Countries; Lots of Press, thousands of cameras pointing at you; Marching Band; Lion Dancers and heaps of Kites????? Toss in 30 thousand spectators and you have an International Kite Festival in Hong Kong!!!!

Maggie and I represented the Australian Kite Association at the first International Kite Festival in Hong Kong.

Fellow Australians Basil & Gill Thrower where representing the Queensland Kite-flyers Society, and two regulars at Bondi, Rosemary & Ray McCully from New Zealand ensured that "Down Under" was well represented.

We were on the field early and of course not a breath of wind. But at about 10 am a light breeze from the water appeared and stayed throughout the day. 10.30 was the official opening ceremony, complete with Lion Dance, Marching Bands speeches, presentations and group photo. We were marched in front of the crowd, paraded around and made to feel like royalty.

It was a perfect sunny day, fairly warm, we had a roped of area to fly, although at one stage they opened this area and allowed the locals to mingle. Maggies Batman Kite proved a big hit with the local kids.
